Wedding Traditions

I was thinking the other day about wedding traditions, and it made me wonder what ones we are keeping and which ones we are doing away with.  So I decided to make a list of the things that we will do and a list of the things that we don't want.

Wedding Traditions That We Are Keeping:

Not seeing each other before the wedding

This one is super important to me.  I really want the photographer to capture the moment Steve sees me walking down the aisle in my dress.  It gives me goose bumps thinking about it!

Father walking me down the aisle

I could not think of getting married with out my Dad walking me down the aisle.

Traditional Dances

We will do the first dance, father/daughter dance, and mother/son dance.

Bouquet Toss

I have single ladies who will be bummed if I don't throw it, so I must!

Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, With a Sixpence in Your Shoes

Old: My engagement ring
New: Wedding band, dress, shoes, veil, hair piece, etc.
Borrowed: Diamonds in my wedding band borrowed from a great-grandmother's eternity band, lace from my mother's dress on the ring bearer's pillow
Blue: Diana is getting me my something blue!  It will be my garter!
Sixpence: The sixpence I will have in my shoes is from the same great-grandmother, Margaret Esther Ayers, who's engagement ring I have.  It seems like it is coming full circle as I will wear her sixpence and her engagement ring.

Cheesy Wedding Music

I am all about dancing and having fun, and I do every dance at weddings I attend, so it is a must to play YMCA, the Hustle, The Electric Slide, Macarena, etc.!

Traditions We Are Not Keeping

We are not riding in limos

This is an added cost that is beyond unnecessary to us, especially since the hotel, ceremony site, and reception site are about a 1/2 mile from each other.

Garter Toss

I get easily embarrassed, so I am not really comfortable with Steve going up under my dress to get the garter from my thigh, to then throw to the single men?  No thanks!  Plus the embarrassment of having the guy who caught the garter put it on the leg of the woman who caught the bouquet... I will pass!

Bridal Party Dance

I will not be having the bridal party dance with each other after our first dance.  That just seems awkward to me.

These are the traditions I have thought us thus far.  I may come up with more later!
