More things done!

So I now have a few more hotels to add to the list for guests to choose from.  One that does not require a 2-night minimum stay, which is SO great for my guests.  I also have reserved the Bridal Suite at a hotel on the Vineyard for the night before and the night after the wedding.  I am so excited to have reserved the room so now I have some place to get ready the day of my wedding and Steve and I have some place to go back to once the reception is over.

I received the aisle runner in the mail... AWFUL.  I want to return it but in order to send it back it will cost 12.85 and then I will lose 20% of the cost due to a restocking fee.  Well the cost of the item is 15.99.  So minus the restocking fee I could get back 12.79.  I would be losing .06 by returning it, so I guess I will have to keep it! The bad thing is that I ordered 2 and now I am stuck with awful runners that are made of the same material as summer picnic table coverings.  They are so thin and flimsy that my shoes would clearly puncture.

So on Monday I drove out to West Springfield and picked up my dress!  I was so happy that it was in.  i was told 12-15 weeks and it came in within 17 days.  I am so happy.  I tried it on again and was ready to cry.  It is truly the most beautiful dress I will ever wear.  I could not be happier with the dress that I picked out!

So on the way home I was crying while drive on the Pike.  I was thinking about how excited I am to be getting married and how waiting 11 months will be difficult but the time will wizz by.  So while driving, I heard the most beautiful song for a first dance.  It is called "I've Dreamed Of You" and it was written by Ann Hampton Callaway, but Barbra Streisand sings it.  I cried even more listening to that song.  The lyrics are:

I've dreamed of you
Always feeling you were there
And all my life
I have searched for you everywhere
I caught your smile on the morning sun
I heard your whisper on the breeze at night
I prayed one day
That your arms would hold me tight
And just when I though love had passed me by
We met
That first look in your eyes
I can't forget
You melted me with your tender touch
I felt all fear and sorrow slip away
Now here we stand
Hand in hand
This blessed day

I promise you
As I give to you my heart
That nothing, nothing in this world
Shall keep us apart
Come happily ever after be
The man I love until the very end
I've dreamed of you
My great love and my best friend

For God must know
How I love you so
He's blessed us here today as Man and Wife

Come dream with me
As I've dreamed of you
All my life

Come dream with me
As I've dreamed of you
All my life

Once I heard this song, through the tears, I messaged myself the title.  once I got home I searched for it on itunes and bought it immediately.  I hope Steve likes it.  It is a beautiful song.

What I have gotten done so far!

So, I decided to start a blog about what I have done for wedding planning and what I have not.  This is a great way to vent any frustrations that I have while going through this process.

I am so excited to embark on this adventure.  When I first got engaged I was so excited about getting married, but did not think of the planning that had to go along with it.  Once I started looking at venues, reception sites, transportation companies, musicians, rental companies, caterers, photographers, etc., that happiness dwindled.  How can people charge the amount that they do for ONE DAY??  It is crazy the amount of money that will be spent on this giant party.  We started out thinking that we would have a $10,000-$15,000 budget, but that quickly increased to $20,000-$25,000.  It is a lot of money, but it will be one heck of a party!

So here is a list of things we already have deposits on, or paid off:
Photographer
Rentals
Ceremony Site
Reception Site
Reception Musician
Justice of the Peace
My hair & make-up
Favors
Save-the-dates
Invitations
My wedding dress, veil, headpiece, and shoes
Wedding rings
Bridesmaids/MOH gifts

Left to do:
Groomsmen gifts
Alcohol (we are buying it in small quantities ourselves)
Ceremony musician (we are working on that now)
Transportation (who knew it would be so difficult to find transportation for our guests??)
Caterer/Cake Baker (same person, just need to put the deposit down and sign the contract)
Suit for Groom (no tuxedo for him!!)

I think that covers it all!! I am so proud of all that I have done so far, seeing as how the wedding is not until next September 24, 2011.  I want to try and have everything done, planned, and paid for before the 6 month mark, so that the last few months we are not scrounging for cash to pay off the bills or whatnot.  I want to be able to relax and work through the details those last few months, and by the way we are getting things together now, it looks like it will turn out the way I want!

This week I ordered:
The aisle runner
The ribbon to wrap the favors in
My bridal party gifts

I have also emailed many hotels to get rooms blocked off for my guests.  I have reserved rooms on both Martha's Vineyard, and on the Cape for those guests that do not want to stay overnight on Martha's Vineyard.  I am trying to do my best to accommodate everyone and their needs, and I think I am doing very well so far.
